Stepping into the Sun | Vol. 1 No. 12
From Quiet Growth to Radiant Presence
After seasons of planting, tending, and waiting, June invites us into the warmth.
Stepping Into the Sun is about allowing ourselves to be visible — to soften into light, to take up space, and to move beyond the shadows we’ve been asked to occupy. It’s about choosing presence, even when it feels vulnerable, and finding strength in being seen.
June is Indigenous History Month, a time that holds both reflection and pride for us as Indigenous women and founders. It’s a time to honour our cultures, stories, and communities — and to continue creating space for Indigenous voices to be seen, heard, and celebrated. As part of this, we’re sharing a featured shirt available from June through August, created with intention and connection to this work. As always, with all products and services, a portion of proceeds goes back to support adults with disabilities in Indigenous communities.
For our community, this can look like many things: small moments of courage, shared stories, or simply letting ourselves experience joy without hesitation. There is no one way to step into the sun — only your way.
As we reach our 12th newsletter — one full journey around the sun — we’re reminded how far we’ve come together. And with Volume 2 on the horizon in July, we’re just getting started.
With care,
Jen & Trish

Stepping Into What’s Meant to Be Seen
Presence isn’t always something that feels natural — especially in spaces that haven’t always made room for us. For many in our community, being present can carry layers: vulnerability, risk, misunderstanding, and exhaustion. And yet, there is also something powerful about choosing — in whatever way feels possible — to step into the light.
As we move into June, Stepping Into the Sun invites us to think about presence not as performance, but as simply being. Not as pressure to shine constantly, but as permission to exist openly, without shrinking. The sun doesn’t ask us to change who we are — it simply offers warmth and the chance to be more fully ourselves. What we do with that light is up to us.
As Indigenous founders, this month holds an added layer of meaning. Indigenous History Month is not only about recognition — it’s about continuation. It’s about carrying stories forward, honouring where we come from, and creating space where our voices and identities are not just included, but centred. Stepping into the sun, in this way, becomes an act of presence rooted in truth, resilience, and pride.
For disabled people, caregivers, and advocates, stepping into the sun can look different depending on the day, the capacity, and the environment. It might mean sharing your story when it feels right, or protecting your energy when it doesn’t. It might by taking up space in a room that wasn’t designed with you in mind, or creating your own space altogether.
There is no single version of “living out loud.” Sometimes it’s bold. Sometimes it’s gentle. Sometimes it’s just choosing not to disappear.
And just like the transition from spring into summer, not every moment is about full bloom. There are still days where we seek shade, where rest takes priority, where being seen feels like too much. Stepping into the sun isn’t about abandoning those needs — it’s about recognizing that both light and shelter are necessary, and that we are allowed to move between them.
As we reach this milestone — one full journey around the sun together — it feels especially meaningful to reflect on what has grown. Not just what shows up on the surface, but what has been building quietly: connection, courage, understanding, and community. Growth doesn’t always announce itself, but it is there.
This month, we invite you to consider:
Where do you feel most able to be seen as you are?
What does being present in your truth look like for you right now — not in expectation, but in truth?
Where can you allow a little more light in, and where might you still need the comfort of shade?
As we move through June, our hope is that this theme offers permission: permission to take up space, to embrace warmth, to move with intention, and to honour both your truth and your boundaries. Being seen isn’t about becoming something new — it’s about allowing what’s already there to exist, fully and unapologetically.
And that, in itself, is powerful.
Quote of the Month

Journal of the Month: We All Belong in the Circle
This month’s journal introduces our newest Limited Edition campaign in the Drop Zone: We All Belong in the Circle. Rooted in connection, community, and the belief that no one should be left outside, this piece reflects the ongoing work of building spaces where everyone belongs.
In honour of Indigenous History Month, the design centers the circle and the sun — reminding us that there is space for all of us, and that inclusion is something we actively choose to create together.
Launching through a pre-order window from June 4–8, and returning on June 21 for National Indigenous Peoples Day, this campaign is part of our commitment to creating with intention, purpose, and meaning.

Behind the Scenes
We’ve been busy — in all the right ways. Behind the scenes, we’re setting things in motion for what’s ahead.
Accessibility Partner for Plattsville 175: A big focus right now is our ongoing work as the Accessibility Partner for Plattsville’s 175th Anniversary. We’re preparing for our volunteer training on June 8th, where we’ll be sharing tools, learning, and guidance to help create a more inclusive and supportive event experience. The excitement is building as we look ahead to the celebration on June 20th — it’s going to be a meaningful day centered around community, accessibility, and connection.
Looking Ahead: Fall & Holiday: Behind the scenes, we’re also beginning to shape our Fall and Christmas collections. This stage is full of creativity, intention, and planning as we continue to design pieces that reflect our values, our stories, and the seasons ahead.
Ability Events: At the same time, we’re working on a proposal presentation for Ability Events, continuing to expand how we bring inclusive event consulting into more spaces. This work is an exciting step forward, and we’re looking forward to sharing more as it unfolds.
There’s a lot in motion, and we’re grateful to bring you along as it all comes together.
Word of the Month: Shine
To shine is to allow your light to be presence in a way that feels true to you. It doesn’t mean being loud all the time or taking up space in the same way as others — it can be quiet, steady, bold, or subtle. Shine is about presence, authenticity, and letting yourself be seen without shrinking. It’s the warmth you bring, the truth you carry, and the courage to exist as you are — even when it feels vulnerable.

Ability Explorations is our way of stepping into the sun — creating opportunities to experience the world with openness, support, and connection. Through thoughtfully planned group trips and shared experiences, we focus on making exploration feel accessible, welcoming, and rooted in belonging.
This month, as we embrace visibility and presence, Ability Explorations reminds us that stepping into new spaces doesn’t have to be done alone. With the right support, we can move beyond limits, discover new places, and feel the warmth of community wherever we go.
