What Showing Up Builds | Vol. 2 No. 1

A Year of Consistency

After seasons of growth and becoming, July invites us to reflect on what steady presence creates.

What Showing Up Builds is about honouring the quiet power of consistency — the ways we return, again and again, to the work, the stories, and the community we’re building together. It’s about recognizing that even on the days it felt small or unseen, something meaningful was taking shape.

Over the past year, we’ve shown up — through newsletters, blogs, posts, conversations, and moments of connection. Not perfectly, but with intention. And in that consistency, we’ve created something that holds us: a space rooted in care, advocacy, and possibility.

Coming out of spring — a season of planting and growth — we’re now continuing forward with deeper roots and clearer direction. Showing up hasn’t just built momentum; it’s built trust, confidence, and a community that continues to expand in ways we couldn’t have imagined at the start.

For our community, showing up might look like continuing when it feels hard, sharing your story, supporting someone else, or simply choosing to stay present. Each act matters. Each one builds something.

As we step into a new chapter — and into Volume 2 — we carry this truth with us: what we nurture consistently becomes what sustains us.

With care,

Jen & Trish

What Showing Up Really Looks Like

When we talk about showing up, it’s easy to picture the visible moments — the posts, the launches, the things people can point to and say, that matters.

But so much of what builds something meaningful — especially in spaces rooted in inclusion — doesn’t look like that.

Showing up is often quiet. It’s choosing to continue creating spaces where people feel seen, even when those spaces are still growing. It’s sharing stories that don’t always get amplified. It’s making room — again and again — for voices that have too often been overlooked or unheard.

At The Ability Company, showing up has meant returning to this work with intention:

  • to inclusion that goes beyond words,

  • to community that is built with care,

  • and to the belief that accessibility, representation, and belonging should be woven into everything we do.

This past year hasn’t been built on one big moment. It’s been built on consistency.

Over the past year, showing up has meant continuing to create opportunities for people with disabilities and caregivers to see themselves reflected, and holding space for Indigenous voices and experiences in ways that feel real and intentional. It has meant choosing, again and again, to return to our purpose — even when the path felt slow, uncertain, or unseen. Because inclusion isn’t something that’s built once and left to stand on its own; it’s something that must be practiced, revisited, and strengthened over time. And that’s what showing up has built for us. Not just content or offerings, but trust. Not just visibility, but real connection. Not just forward movement, but a community grounded in care and possibility.

For many of us, showing up doesn’t look loud or linear. It can look like sharing your story even when it feels vulnerable, supporting someone else in quiet ways, or simply staying connected in a way that works for you. All of it matters. As we continue forward, we’re not starting from the beginning — we’re building from everything we’ve already created together. Every moment of presence, every act of intention, and every step toward inclusion has shaped what this space is becoming, and more importantly, what it can continue to be.

Journal of the Month: A Year of Showing Up — Even When No One Was Watching

Over the past year, we’ve been showing up in ways that are steady, intentional, and deeply rooted in our values. This heartfelt blog reflects on what that consistency has built — the quiet progress, the meaningful connections, and the kind of growth that comes from believing in the ability to keep going, even when the results aren’t immediate.

Behind the Scenes

We’ve been busy — in all the right ways. Behind the scenes, we’ve been wrapping things up, building what’s next, and setting new ideas into motion.

  • Accessibility Partner for Plattsville 175: We wrapped up Plattsville 175, where we had the opportunity to train volunteers and be fully immersed in the day — a meaningful experience rooted in community, connection, and inclusion.

  • Looking Ahead: Fall & Holiday: Behind the scenes, we’re also beginning to shape our Fall and Christmas collections. This stage is full of creativity, intention, and planning as we continue to design pieces that reflect our values, our stories, and the seasons ahead.

  • Ability Events: We’re currently working on new Inclusive Accessibility Experience Mini-Packages, designed to make their event more inclusive and accessible for all.

  • Inclusive Accessibility Sprint: We completed a consultation with a large Toronto-based company for their Human Rights Conference, continuing our work to bring inclusion and accessibility to life in meaningful and practical ways.

  • Ability Storytellings Workshops: We’ve also updated and refined our workshops, ensuring they reflect the growth, insight, and direction we’ve developed over the past year.

There’s a lot in motion, and we’re grateful to bring you along as it all comes together.

Service Spotlight: Ability Storytellings

This month, we’re highlighting our Ability Storytellings workshops — spaces designed to bring real conversations, lived experiences, and meaningful learning together. These workshops go beyond awareness; they create opportunities for people and organizations to engage with disability, caregiving, and inclusion in ways that are honest, interactive, and grounded in real life.

Through storytelling, reflection, and guided discussion, we help shift perspectives and build understanding that can be carried forward into everyday actions. Whether it’s in workplaces, community spaces, or events, our workshops are designed to meet people where they are — and support them in taking the next step toward creating more inclusive and accessible environments.

Product Spotlight: The Caregiver's Line

This month, we’re highlighting our Caregiver’s Line — a collection created to honour the quiet strength, care, and dedication that so often goes unseen. Each piece is designed with intention, reflecting the experiences of those who support others every day, while holding space for their own identity, resilience, and story. More than just products, this line is a way of recognizing caregivers in a meaningful way — offering visibility, connection, and a reminder that their role matters deeply.

We’re still building this space with intention. While things have been quieter here recently, it remains an important part of how we want to share stories, conversations, and perspectives in the future — and we’re looking forward to growing into it in a way that feels true to our community.
