Grounded in Loyalty, Growing with Purpose
August invites us to pay attention to the companions who model connection in its most reliable form. Dogs don’t complicate care — they offer it through consistency, presence, and a kind of loyalty that doesn’t need to be earned. They greet us the same way on our best days and our hardest ones, reminding us what unconditional love really is.
As we move into this new month, we’re also grounding ourselves in clarity about where our work is gaining the strongest traction. Over the past season, organizations have been showing up most for Ability Events, Ability Storytellings, and our new Ability Partnership Program coming September 1st— the spaces where steady engagement, deeper collaboration, and long‑term impact are taking shape. Because of that momentum, we’ve paused Ability Circles and Ability Explorations for now, allowing us to focus our energy where our community is actively leaning in.
As we celebrate National Dog Month and National Dog Day on August 26, we’re taking a closer look at how canine steadiness can reshape the way we show up for one another: with grounded attention, dependable follow‑through, and with no judgement.

Learning from Dogs
Dogs have a way of showing us what support looks like when it’s lived consistently. Their loyalty isn’t performative — it’s steady. It’s the way they stay close without crowding, the way they adjust their pace without making it a moment, the way they return again and again with the same dependable energy. Presence, for them, is simple: they’re here. Fully. Without distraction, without judgment, without needing you to be anything other than who you are in that moment.
And trust? Dogs build it through repetition. Through predictable interactions. Through the quiet reassurance that they will respond the same way whether you have a good day or a bad day. That reliability is what makes people feel safe — not because the world becomes easier, but because the relationship never wavers.
In inclusion work, these three behaviours matter. Loyalty looks like standing with someone even when their needs shift. Presence looks like slowing down enough to actually notice what supports them. Trust looks like following through in ways that reduce uncertainty instead of adding to it. When we model these dog-like behaviours, we create environments where people feel safe, valued, and loved exactly as they are.
At its heart, inclusion is about creating spaces where people know they belong. Loyalty, presence, and trust help make that possible. When we offer others our attention, keep our commitments, and meet people without judgment, we build communities where everyone has the opportunity to be seen, heard, and valued. Dogs remind us that belonging often begins with how we show up for one another.

We’ve been busy — in all the right ways. Behind the scenes, we’ve been wrapping things up, building what’s next, and setting new ideas into motion.
Caldwell First Nation 2nd Annual Pow Wow: Next weekend is the Pow Wow , and we’re honoured to support it. Last week, we trained volunteers on an inclusive, accessible mindset, giving them the grounding they need to welcome attendees with confidence and care.
Looking Ahead: Fall & Holiday: We’re deep into shaping our fall and holiday work — a season full of creativity, intention, and planning. This stage is where ideas begin to take form and where we design experiences that reflect our values and the communities we serve.
Ability Partnership Program: We’re finalizing the new Ability Partnership Program, building a structure that supports organizations through ongoing, year‑round inclusion work.
Ability Events & Storytellings: Engagement continues to grow in Ability Events and Ability Storytellings, and new opportunities with organizations are already in motion.
There’s a lot in motion, and we’re grateful to bring you along as it all comes together.
