The Power of Storytelling
At The Ability Company, storytelling isn’t just something we do — it’s in our blood. As an Indigenous-owned business, we come from a long tradition of storytelling, where knowledge, identity, and connection are passed down through generations. Stories are how we teach, how we heal, and how we build understanding. We’ve always believed in the power of storytelling to spark change. And now, we’re thrilled to share a new way we’re bringing our story to the world: keynote speaking engagements.
Why We’re Speaking Up
Our journey — Trish living with cerebral palsy, and Jen as her caregiver and advocate — is one of resilience, partnership, and possibility. Over the years, we’ve learned that sharing our lived experiences doesn’t just raise awareness — it builds bridges, challenges assumptions, and inspires action.
That’s why we’re stepping onto more stages, both virtual and in-person, to speak directly to communities, companies, schools, and organizations that want to better understand disability, caregiving, and inclusion.
Embracing Difference: The Power of Every Voice
One of the most meaningful parts of our keynote is that Trish speaks for herself — literally. Trish has a speech impairment, and at times, she can be hard to understand. But that’s exactly why her voice matters. In a world where public speaking is often reserved for those who sound a certain way, Trish is breaking that mold — and showing that sounding different is not only okay, it’s powerful.
We believe that communication is about connection, not perfection. Trish teaches audiences that with a little patience and a willingness to truly listen, understanding is always possible. Her presence on stage is a reminder that representation matters, and that every voice — no matter how it sounds — deserves to be heard.
This part of our keynote often becomes one of the most impactful moments for audiences. It challenges assumptions, builds empathy, and opens up a conversation about accessibility, inclusion, and the value of diverse voices in every space.
What We Talk About
Our keynote, “The Power of Ability: A Story of Courage, Care, and Connection,” is a heartfelt, honest, and often humorous look at life through our experiences. We explore:
What it means to live boldly with a disability
The realities and rewards of caregiving
How to move beyond stereotypes and see the person, not the diagnosis
What true inclusion looks like — in workplaces, schools, and everyday life
Whether we’re speaking to a room full of healthcare professionals, corporate leaders, educators, or students, our goal is the same: to open hearts, shift perspectives, and celebrate the strength in every story.
Who It’s For
Our keynote is perfect for:
Corporate DEI events
Healthcare and caregiving conferences
Educational institutions
Nonprofits and advocacy groups
Anyone ready to learn, grow, and be inspired
Coming Soon: Workshops That Go Deeper
We’re also excited to share that we’re developing a series of interactive workshops to complement our keynote offerings. These sessions will create space for deeper conversations, shared storytelling, and practical learning.
Our first workshop, Inclusion 101, will focus on:
Understanding disability through lived experience
How to be an ally and advocate
Creating inclusive environments at work, school, and in the community
Language, accessibility, and mindset shifts that matter
These workshops will be ideal for teams, educators, and organizations looking to move from awareness to action.
