When Conditions Start to Change | Vol. 1 No. 9

The Quiet Start of Spring

March is a month of quiet beginnings. The world is still cold, still heavy with winter, but something underneath is shifting. Conditions start to change long before we can fully see it — in the soil, in our routines, and in ourselves.

This month, we’re exploring what it means to trust the unseen work. The kind that happens beneath the surface… in bodies, in communities, and in the systems we move through. Because change doesn’t always announce itself with bright colours or warm breezes. Sometimes it begins in the smallest signals — a bit more light, a bit more ease, a bit more possibility.

As we step into early spring, we invite you to notice what’s moving in your life, even if it’s not visible yet. Growth, rest, healing, clarity — they all start quietly. But they start.

Lots of hope,

Jen and Trish

When Change Takes Root

Spring doesn’t arrive all at once. It eases in slowly, gently, almost quietly enough to miss if we aren’t paying attention. The light comes a little earlier. The air shifts just enough to remind us that winter is not forever. Beneath frozen ground, roots strengthen long before anything blooms.

For many disabled people and caregivers, this rhythm feels familiar. Life often asks you to begin again long before the world notices anything is changing. You adapt to new routines. You rebuild strength. You adjust care schedules, energy levels, access needs, expectations — not once, but again and again. These beginnings aren’t seasonal; they’re constant. And they take courage.

Spring offers a reminder that unseen work is still work. That progress doesn’t have to be visible to be real. That renewal is not always dramatic — sometimes it’s simply the decision to try again today, even when yesterday was heavy. For caregivers whose days start before dawn, and for disabled folks navigating systems that weren’t built with them in mind, beginning again is more than a fresh start. It’s a lived practice.

This month, we honour that practice. The quiet resilience. The patience. The hope that returns even when conditions haven’t caught up yet. Just like early spring, change is already happening — in rest, in boundaries, in support networks, in the moments where people choose care over perfection, community over isolation, inclusion over convenience.

As conditions start to change and the season slowly turns, we invite you to look for the small signs in your own life: a little more capacity, a little more clarity, a little more possibility. The roots are ready. The ground is softening. And even if the world can’t see it yet, something new is taking shape.

Journal of the Month: A Fresh Start for Our Signature Line

Spring is a season of renewal — and our Signature Line refresh follows the same rhythm. Just like the first signs of growth after a long winter, this update lets us shed what no longer fits and make space for what’s blooming now. Refreshing the lines mean cleaner designs, clearer messages, and more colour options. It’s a chance to evolve with our community, honour what’s changed, and step into the season with something that feels new, hopeful, and growing right alongside us.

Behind the Scenes

We’ve been busy — in the best way. While you're reading this, we’re laying the groundwork for some exciting next steps behind the scenes.

  • Joining the Chamber of Commerce: A new door is opening. Becoming a Chamber member means stepping into rooms where inclusion isn’t just talked about — it can be shaped. It’s a chance to show local businesses what accessibility‑centered entrepreneurship really looks like.

  • Reaching Out to Companies for Collaboration: This season is all about connection. We’ve met with several companies/organizations that share our values, building bridges that could open opportunities for disabled creators, caregivers, and inclusive design. We cannot wait for see what comes from this all.

  • First Collaborations in the Drop Zone: Our Drop Zone is expanding — and in a few months we’re are hoping to launch our first collaborative pieces created with or for community partners. These aren’t just products; they’re shared stories taking shape.

  • Refreshing Our Signature Line: We’re giving our classics a breath of fresh spring air. The messages that started it all are being refined, refreshed, and re‑introduced with the clarity we’ve grown into.

  • New Keynote Topics and Workshops: We’ve designed for real‑world inclusion: practical, accessible, and rooted in the needs of communities, workplaces, caregivers, and disabled people. Spring is definitely a season of expansion.

Word of the Month: Emergence

YouTube Spotlight: Love Letters: Care, Abilities, and Everything In Between

In our newest episode of The Ability Lens, Trish and Jen dig into what “Access to Love” truly means for disabled people and caregivers. Through honest, tender conversation, they unpack romance, care, self-worth, and the barriers that too often shape how love is offered — and who it reaches.

Together, they share the love letters they wish someone had spoken into their lives years ago, and imagine a future where love is not conditional, complicated, or inaccessible, but something everyone can experience fully and freely.

It’s vulnerable, heartfelt, and a reminder that love — real love — must include us all.
